2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hokes Bluff finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Hokes Bluff finished sixth in Class 4A region six with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2007 season and would love to end that streak this year. Hokes Bluff was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.7 points a game. Since 2010, the Hokes Bluff football program has struggled with a record of 17-43. Over the past 25 seasons, Hokes Bluff has managed to compile a record of 153-119. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 4A and 118th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010. The Eagles are led by head coach Michael Robertson who is entering his twenty-first season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 124-96 over the past twenty seasons at Hokes Bluff. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They have won one region crown with Coach Robertson. Coach Robertson led Hokes Bluff to a state championship in 2001. Coach Robertson's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 124-96 (56.4%). His 124 wins rank 38th among active coaches in the AHSAA. The Hokes Bluff Eagles will play in Class 4A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 4A but move from region six over to region five. The Eagles enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Hokes Bluff will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Southside Gadsden on Thursday, August 25 at Barney Hood Stadium. Last year the Southside Gadsden Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 6A region seven. Hokes Bluff and Southside Gadsden have met a total of 74 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 39-32-3 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Southside Gadsden winning by a score of 49-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
